Southwestern Colorado (July 2020)

For today, we headed East a bit to the chimney rock national monument, which I had visited only briefly with Richard in 2017, and which was essentially undeveloped at the time. Although they were still working on some of the buildings when we arrived this time, there was now an interpretive trail and even some guides with detailed maps. Jen and I did the trails, which included climbing up to the ruins adjacent to chimney rock, and as a result, did a fair amount more hiking than originally planned for the day.

Elsewhere in the monument was a trail through a canyon, which was a ways down a pipeline access road and took us two tries to find. As it was an out and back, we did part of it, then turned around. Afterwards, we headed south to Navajo lake state park, but passed it by, instead returning to Durango for lunch.

Later in the day, we took a drive through the less touristy parts of Durango, and visited the lemon and vencito (?) reservoirs to the east of town.
