DAY 10

This was mostly a travel day, with the second longest drive of our trip ahead of us. We rose, fueled the vehicle, and set
out, backtracking over much of our path yesterday, continuing beyond Lake Mıvatn. As we drove, we came upon what
appeared to be a vast expanse of rocky desert.

We headed north off the Ring Road on a gravel road to a national park, home of several large waterfalls. What we
found was kind of the Icelandic equivalent of the Grand Canyon, a large (largest in Europe, by water volume) waterfall,
and a brief hike to a second falls upstream. The weather was deteriorating into a cold drenching rain, so we skipped
the longer hike to the downstream falls and drove the rest of the way to Egilsstağir.

The rest of the day was rather uneventful, as the nearest hike would have ran too long and the town was relatively
modern (1941) and quite quiet.
