Northern Tennessee (May 2023)

We rose late and skipped breakfast, heading west towards Frozen Head State Park, which we had passed on the way in Wednesday. The park was directly next to a correctional facility, it was in fact originally land belonging to the prison, but deeded over to the park service after they no longer needed it. It consisted of wooded hills, and we hiked to several waterfalls there, without summiting any of the hills. It was roughly lunch time by then, so we headed to the nearby town of Wartburg, and ate at a Taco Bell (I hadn't eaten at one in years, and it was notably improved in the interim) After that, we headed through the back country to reach Crossville, where we visited the Stonehaus winery. It was just a winery (they had tried to grow grapes in the area with little success) but included some excellent muscadine wines. We ended up leaving with three bottles. We returned to Knoxville in the evening, and stopped at a microbrewery before having an early dinner and retiring (to drink one of the recently acquired bottles)
