Southwestern Colorado (July 2020)

This was our last day in Durango, and instead of visiting Pagosa springs like originally planned, we decided to head north and see Ouray, before circling around to telluride from the north. Our plan went well at first, but after we visited cascade falls in Ouray, Jen fell on the steep, loose gravel in the parking lot and gashed her right leg up pretty badly. We decided that instead of further hikes today, we would take a bit of a car tour, and headed north as far as Montrose before cutting west through the uncompagre forest and heading down to telluride.

On the way through the forest, I stopped briefly to read a sign, and was questioned by a police officer who was nearby. Apparently, they were looking for a similar vehicle that had harassed a woman earlier. After being sufficiently convinced that I was not the suspect (and my wife not the victim) she thanked us and drove off. The forest itself was quite pretty; I had anticipated low desert shrubs this far west, but we drove through reasonably thick forest, including large stands of aspen.

Although we encountered some significant traffic delays due to construction, we reached the hotel in telluride before it was dark, and ate a pizza dinner at a restaurant near our hotel.
